Construction materials and architecture - from foundation to the Republic
An examination of the local materials available to the Romans from the regal/early Republic, as well as the distinctive characteristics of Roman architecture. Then, an overview of the rapid development from the 3-1 centuries BC, in particular, focus on tuffs and opus caementicium exploitation. A general history of the rise of Rome that finds parallel in the transformation of the Urbs, especially the 2C BC.: Roman Forum, Palatine, Forum Boarium, Largo Argentina.

Architecture and Engineering in the imperial age in Rome
A survey of the architecture and engineering solutions from the end of the Republic (Theater of Pompey, Forum of Caesar) to the first dynasties, until the 3C AD (Severans): Roman Forum, Imperial Fora, Palatine, Campus Martius (Pantheon), Colosseum.

Darius Arya is an archaeologist (Ph.D. University of Texas), fellow of the American Academy in Rome, director of the American Institute for Roman Culture (romanculture.org) and TV host/ expert (e.g., host of RAI5's Under Italy). He has conducted over 14 years excavation field schools in Rome (Parco dei Acquedotti, foro romano) and Ostia Antica. He collaborates with MiBACT e Musei in Comune and has created many internationally recognized initiatives on social media platforms, including a series of online courses with live streaming on site.
